The Joint Command and Staff College is one of the most important academic institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. It always strives to fulfill its educational and training mission to graduate capable officers and leaders qualified to hold high leadership positions, possessing vast knowledge and analytical ability to manage various operational theaters. The college is making steady progress in modernizing and developing all aspects of administration, academics, and technical skills, in line with its vision to be ranked among similar military academic institutions in other brotherly and friendly countries. The college has received attention and high-level care from His Majesty the Supreme Commander – may God protect him – based on Royal Decree No. (22/27), which transferred its affiliation to the Academy of Strategic and Defense Studies. This made the college one of the most important components of the academy, continuing its historical mission of supplying the Ministry of Defense, the Sultan's Armed Forces, and the security agencies, as well as friendly and brotherly countries, with future leaders under the guidance of highly qualified mentors using the latest training methods. The college today fulfills its duties and roles according to a clear vision and methodology, with continuous support and wise guidance from the Academy’s Board of Trustees, chaired by His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs. The college is making great efforts to utilize all available resources and capabilities to create an attractive working environment for all its members. Finally, we ask Allah, the Almighty, to grant us success in serving this generous country and its esteemed leader, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, the Supreme Commander – may God protect him – for He is the Hearer, the Near, and the Answerer of prayers.

About the College

Overview
The Joint Command and Staff College was established under the high directives of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces - may God bless his soul - and in order to translate the high directives into a practical reality, the college project team began its preparation and planning work in 1984 AD. The Royal approval was given to name the college (Command and Staff College of the Sultan's Armed Forces), and on September 30, 1987, the first session of the Command and Staff College was officially opened under the patronage of His Excellency Sayyid Al-Mu'tasim bin Hamoud Al-Busaidi, Minister of State for Defence Affairs - at that time - in Bait Al-Falaj Camp, where the first session included (19) students from the three arms (the Royal Army of Oman, the Royal Air Force of Oman, and the Royal Navy of Oman). On December 11, 1988, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces - may God bless his soul - graciously inaugurated the college building in its current location in Bait Al-Falaj Camp, and it was equipped with various facilities, amenities, and necessary means to support the education and training process. The Command and Staff College began receiving officers from other security and military agencies in the Sultanate of Oman starting from the third session after it was limited to officers from the Royal Army of Oman, the Royal Air Force of Oman, and the Royal Navy of Oman in the first and second sessions. After that, the courses were held in succession, and the college witnessed qualitative leaps in all educational, technical and construction fields, including - but not limited to - the creation of new curricula, the addition of study groups, and the establishment of modern lecture facilities equipped with the latest specifications. The college also began receiving participating students from sisterly and friendly countries starting in 1994 AD. During the first six sessions, the college received numerous requests from sister countries to enroll a number of officers from these countries in the Command and Staff Course in the Sultanate of Oman. However, the college administration initially preferred to wait and prepare appropriately for this stage, as the college is new and is still taking its first steps. In the seventh session, non-Omani officers representing the armies of a number of Gulf Cooperation Council countries joined the course for the first time. The fourteenth and fifteenth sessions witnessed the participation of the first student officer from friendly countries from the United States. Then the number of participating friendly countries increased to two, with the participation of a student officer from the French army in the sixteenth session. After that, officers from sister and friendly countries participated in a larger and broader manner, which reflects the prestigious level and good reputation that the Command and Staff College has enjoyed at the regional and international levels and the remarkable development it enjoys in its academic programs, equipment and supporting educational devices. Today, the college falls under the umbrella of the Academy of Strategic and Defense Studies under the name of the Joint Command and Staff College.
